Coveted spots in the brackets were secured last weekend as qualifying for the 100th San Francisco City Men’s Championship was held at Presidio Golf Course and Lincoln Golf Course.
Drew Karren and Dominic Salomone, both high school seniors in the Bay Area, shared medalist honors after coming with matching scores of even-par 140.
Karren posted a 67 at Lincoln and a 73 at Presidio, while Salomone had a 69 at Lincoln and 71 at Presidio.
The duo will be the No.1 and No.2 seeds for the championship. Two-time Junior Tour of Northern California Player of the Year and defending champ Justin Suh of San Jose is now at USC and is not playing this year.
Others advancing to match play were 2015 runner-up Thomas Hutchison (145), 2015 Nature Valley First Tee Open at Pebble Beach Pro-Junior winner Jack Avrit (148) and 2012 NCGA Amateur Match Play winner Jake Yount (149).
The cut to advance to match play (top 64) came at thirteen-over par 153.
This weekend’s action (Feb. 20-21) at the San Francisco City will feature qualifying for the Women’s, Senior and Super Senior Championships.
