New NCGA Women’s Amateurs Tee Off
Female amateur golfers in Northern California now have an annual Tour to compete on.
The NCGA’s latest tournament programs – a Women’s Tour and a Senior Women’s Amateur Tour for players 50 and older – officially began Oct. 1.
The Women’s Amateur Tour currently consists of 17 tournaments, including the annual NCGA Women’s Amateur Championship, the California Women’s Amateur Championship and a number of USGA championships.
The Senior Women’s Amateur Tour consists of five tournaments, including the NCGA Senior Women’s Amateur Championship, the California Senior Women’s Amateur Championship and multiple USGA championships.
“The newly established Women’s Amateur Tour is a tremendous addition to the NCGA’s Tournament Program,” said NCGA Director of Rules and Competitions Ryan Gregg. “We are hopeful that this program will grow over time, and bring more attention to the incredibly talented women golfers in Northern California.”
The tournament season will run from Oct. 1, 2015 to Sept. 30, 2016, and will feature the same points system the NCGA currently uses for its Men’s Amateur Tours.

Olympic Club member Hannah O’Sullivan would’ve picked up 700 points for her win at this year’s U.S. Women’s Am.
At the conclusion of the season, awards will go to the Women’s Player of the Year and Senior Women’s Player of the Year.
Among those excited to see the Tour’s launch is 2010 NCGA Women’s Amateur Championship winner Emily Childs, who has since turned professional.
“I had a hard time finding events to play during the college offseason, and in transition of turning professional, and even as a junior player,” said Childs, a former Cal great who was the first player in Bears history to win three tournaments in a single season. “There are so many good women golfers in Northern California that need a consistent tour to play on, just like the men. I think having this tour will bring more women into the sport, especially knowing they could have their own tour to play on.”
The Women’s Tour technically began with a U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship qualifier held Sept. 14, 2015 at Castlewood CC. The Senior Women’s Tour played two events – a U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur Sectional Qualifying held Sept. 1 at Sonoma GC and The U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur Championship, which began Sept. 26 and concluded Oct. 1.
NCGA member Karen Garcia won the U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur and picked up 700 points in the early Senior Women’s Player of the Year race.
