Stanford’s Lauren Kim Gets Exemption Into LPGA Tour’s Marathon Classic
June 1, 2015
Fresh off a national collegiate title, Stanford’s Lauren Kim will now get a taste of the LPGA Tour.
Kim, who won the 2012 NCGA Junior Championship, received the second sponsor exemption into the Marathon LPGA Classic just days after helping the Cardinal women’s golf team earn their first national championship title.
The second sponsor exemption went to a representative of the NCAA winning team as selected by the coach. Stanford defeated Baylor, 3 and 2, in a thriller that went to extra holes.
Kim, who’s ranked No.17 in the country, was named the Cardinal MVP this season.
Stanford coach Anne Walker told The Golf Channel that she selected Kim because “she wanted to reward the body of work and recognize that she carried us here to this point this year.”
The first Marathon LPGA Classic exemption went to Alabama’s Emma Talley, who won the NCAA individual title.
This year’s Marathon LPGA Classic will tee off July 16-19 at Highland Meadows GC in Ohio.
