DeChambeau Heads to U.S. Open With More Steam After T-45 Finish at St. Jude Classic
June 15, 2015
Clovis resident Bryson DeChambeau will head into this week’s U.S. Open at Chambers Bay feeling even more confident.
This past weekend, DeChambeau, a former member of the Junior Tour of Northern California, finished T-45 at the PGA Tour FedEx St. Jude Classic at TPC Southwind in Memphis after receiving a sponsor’s exemption.
The 2011 JTNC Player of the Year, who’s now a senior at Southern Methodist University, made the cut by two shots after opening with rounds of 69 and 71. On Saturday and Sunday he’d shoot 68 and 72, respectively.
Just how much has DeChambeau been in a groove lately?
At a U.S. Open qualifier in Columbus, Ohio, DeChambeau shot 11-under 133 (66-67) to finish T-3. A week prior to that, he fired a final round 1-under 71 at The Concession Golf Club in Florida to win the NCAA Championship individual title by one over runner-up Cheng-Tsung Pan of the University of Washington.
DeChambeau will open play at Chambers Bay with a first round tee time of 1:22 p.m. His playing partners will be Blayne Barber and Billy Hurley III.
