Dynamic Duo: Lucy Li and Kathleen Scavo Team Up for U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball
March 27, 2015
They’re not headed back to the U.S. Women’s Open, but Lucy Li of Redwood Shores and Benicia’s Kathleen Scavo will be playing in another USGA championship.
And this time, they’ll be doing it together.
Playing as a team, Li and Scavo earned a spot in the inaugural U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball Championship on Thursday, carding a medalist-earning 7-under 65 in an 18-hole Sectional qualifier held at par-72 Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz. The two proved to be a lethal combo as they’d card seven birdies with no bogeys. The duo’s best stretch came on the back-nine, with five birdies within their first seven holes.
Last year, Li and Scavo each earned trips to the U.S. Women’s Open. Despite missing the cut, Li became the darling of the event due to being–at age 11–the youngest player to ever qualify for the championship. While Li still isn’t even a teenager, Scavo, who also missed the cut, is headed to the University of Oregon this fall.
Both Li and Scavo are alums of the Junior Tour of Northern California.
The inaugural U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball Championship will tee off May 9-13 at Bandon Dunes.
