Jerry Ledzinski and partner Jeff Britton got an early clue that it was going to be their day.
On just their first hole of the second round—the par-4 1st at Pacific Grove Golf Links—Britton made a hole-in-one, helping the duo capture the annual AmateurGolf.com Monterey County Four-Ball title on Sunday.
Ledzinski and Britton, who both hail from nearby Carmel, went on to card a 64, giving the tandem a two-day total of 13-under 127 and a two-stroke win over a trio of teams that finished at 129. On Sunday’s critical back-nine, the Ledzinski and Britton team, which also won the title last year, shot a 4-under 31.
The three teams finishing at 129 were the tandems of Jason Anthony-Johnny O’Leary, Lawrence O’Neill-Nick Sorensen and Michael Tolladay-Scott Watson.
Russell Humphrey and partner James Watt, who had also opened with a 63, fell back to 11th place after a second round 68.
In the Senior Championship, Casey Boyns and partner Mark Miller shot a final round 63 to finish at 12-under 128 and defeat two teams by two strokes.
Finishing as co-runner-ups were the tandems of Dale Bouguennec and Scott Anderson and Herb Jensen and Ron Johnson. Both Bouguennec and Anderson and the Jensen and Johnson squad had rounds of 66-63.
The tandem of Frank Pieper and Neil Duffy placed third, coming in at 131 (67-64).
