World Series Champs Buster Posey, Matt Cain Headed to Pebble Beach for 2015 AT&T Pro-Am
December 4, 2014
A pair of World Series champions are headed to Pebble Beach Golf Links for the 2015 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.
The Monterey Peninsula Foundation, which runs the AT&T Pro-Am, recently announced that San Francisco Giants pitcher Matt Cain and battery mate Buster Posey have both accepted invitations to play in the 2015 tournament, to be held February 9-15.
Cain, who has played in each of the last four AT&T Pro-Ams, made the cut in both the 2011 and 2012 Pro-Ams. Posey will be making his debut, but is no stranger to playing at some of golf’s greatest venues, having played at Augusta National.
The champions duo will join a field of elite PGA Tour professionals including Jim Furyk, Padraig Harrington and winning Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley, as well as a celebrity field including fan favorites Ray Romano, Chris O’Donnell, Don Cheadle and Andy Garcia.
“We are thrilled that Buster Posey is joining us,” said Steve John, Monterey Peninsula Foundation CEO and tournament director. “He is a tremendously popular superstar who is certain to be an instant attraction. Enhancing our field with players like Buster Posey and Paul McGinley ensures the tournament experience stays fresh for both the spectators and the competitors.”
The tournament is played at Pebble Beach, Spyglass Hill Golf Course and the Shore Course at Monterey Peninsula Country Club. Jimmy Walker is the defending champion.
Another bonus for Bay Area sports fans will be Tuesday’s annual Chevron Shoot-Out, which pits members of the Giants against members of the San Francisco 49ers. Both Cain and Posey will also play in that. Two early 49ers representatives who have signed up are Steve Young and Harris Barton.
