A pair of NorCal teams are headed to the 2016 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship after advancing through a qualifier held Monday at Peachtree Golf and Country Club in Marysville.
2014 NCGA Stroke Play Amateur Championship winner Bobby Bucey and partner Brett Viboch and the tandem of Jason Herrera and Michael Williams moved on after shooting rounds of 8-under 64.
Also carding a 64 was the tandem of Granite Bay GC members Gary Dunn and Jon Peterson. Dunn and Peterson would lose in a playoff, leaving them with the first alternate spot. Dunn and Peterson competed in this year’s inaugural U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship at The Olympic Club.
The second alternate spot became a conundrum when the tandems of Juan Gonzalez and Luis Pelayo and Kevin Blue and Pat Phillips, who had both shot 65, didn’t stick around for a playoff. Blue and Phillips would be awarded the second alternate spot via a card-off.
The 2016 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship will be held at Winged Foot GC in New York on May 21-25.
