Santa Clara Golf Club came back to take the title, but Gilroy Golf and Country Club also moved on.
Santa Clara GC shot a final round 10-under 130 at par-70 Carmel Valley Ranch on Tuesday to finish at 260 and defeat Gilroy G&CC by three strokes in the annual NCGA South Bay Zone Championship.

Both teams advanced to this year’s NCGA Zone Championship, slated for August 24-25 at Poppy Hills GC and Spyglass Hill.
The Santa Clara G&CC squad, made up of teammates Ed Ryan, Michael Vincenti, Robert Malonso and Harold Tompkins, posted four eagles and four birdies to go with two bogeys and a double-bogey in a format that takes the two best net scores per hole of a four-man team.
In Monday’s opening round at par-71 Poppy Hills, Santa Clara G&CC had opened with a 130, leaving them two shots behind Gilroy G&CC.

Gilroy G&CC, comprised of teammates Craig Moriyama, Julian Carrasco, Thomas Gallardo and Jeremy Thielen, shot a final round 5-under 135 a day after going 14-under. At Carmel Valley Ranch, the team had two eagles and six birdies but also three bogeys and a double-bogey.
Finishing in a tie for third at 265, just two back of Gilroy G&CC’s second spot, were Sunnyvale GC and Pasatiempo GC.
Sunnyvale GC, made up of teammates Jay Dameron, Robert Heihn, Mike Curran and Scott Fuller, shot a final round 130. Pasatiempo GC, comprised of teammates Yukon Cherng, Bob Cayton, Tony Nelson and Dennis Ventry, also shot 130.
Coming in fifth place at 266 after a final round 129 was Saratoga CC.

Gilroy Golf and Country Club is the team to chase after day one.
Gilroy G&CC grabbed in the lead in the annual NCGA South Bay Zone Championship on Monday, posting a 14-under 128 at par-71 Poppy Hills Golf Course in a format that takes the two best net scores per hole of a four-man team.
The Gilroy G&CC squad, made up of teammates Craig Moriyama, Julian Carrasco, Thomas Gallardo and Jeremy Thielen, posted five eagles and six birdies to go against two bogeys and a 9 on the par-3 17th.
In second place, two shots behind the leaders at 130, is Santa Clara Golf Club. Santa Clara GC, comprised of teammates Ed Ryan, Michael Vincenti, Robert Malonso and Harold Tompkins, had a completely mistake-free day, posting three eagles and six birdies with zero bogeys.
Ridgemark Golf and Country Club, made up of teammates Mike Martinez, Ron Locicero, Robert Fink and Leo Villar, sits in third place after an opening 132.
Other teams that are in the mix but need to have strong second rounds include Sunnyvale GC, Almaden G&CC and Pasatiempo GC. The three are T-4 at 135.
The two low teams from the championship will advance to this year’s NCGA Zone Championship, slated for August 24-25 at Spyglass Hill and Poppy Hills.
Play for Tuesday’s final round will shift to par-70 Carmel Valley Ranch.
