Oakhurst Country Club and Diablo Hills Golf Course both moved on, but there was still the matter of deciding a champion.
Oakhurst CC and Diablo Hills GC finished the annual NCGA Northeat Bay Zone Championship tied at 27-under 255 following Tuesday’s final round at par-70 Carmel Valley Ranch. In a playoff, Oakhurst CC won the title.
Both teams advanced to this year’s NCGA Zone Championship, slated for August 24-25 at Spyglass Hill and Poppy Hills.

In a thriller, Oakhurst CC carded a steller score of 18-under 122, coming from behind to tie Diablo Hills GC for the top spot. The Oakhurst CC squad, comprised of teammates Todd Jorgensen, Robert Sawatzky, Rick Mcghehey and Michael Kading, carded eight eagles and three birdies to go with just one bogey and a double-bogey in a format that takes the two best net scores per hole of a four-man team. In Monday’s first round at par-71 Poppy Hills GC, the team shot 9-under 133.
The first round leaders, Diablo Hills GC followed up an opening round 127 with a 12-under 128 at Carmel Valley Ranch. On the card, the Diablo Hills GC team, made up of Rafeal Guardado, Todd Wyke, Robert Cooper and Tony Rosa, penciled in four eagles and six birdies to go with two bogeys.

Finishing in third at 259 following a final round 129 was the Concord at Diablo Creek GC team of Miles Bell, Peter Barry, Matt Ralls and Michael McCartney.
Fourth place went to Roddy Ranch at 260.

Diablo Hills Golf Club is the team to chase after day one of the annual NCGA Northeast Bay Zone Championship.
Diablo Hills GC posted a score of 15-under 127, taking a two stroke lead over Vallejo at Blue Rock in Monday’s first round at par-71 Poppy Hills Golf Course.
The Diablo Hills GC squad, made up of Rafeal Guardado, Todd Wyke, Robert Cooper and Tony Rosa, penciled in six eagles and six birdies to go with just three bogeys in a format that takes the two best net scores per hole of a four-man team.
Vallejo at Blue Rock shot a first round score of 13-under 129. The team, comprised of Kevin Harry, Kurt Jensen, Jack Kenoyer and Eugene Kish, had six eagles and five birdies to go with a bogey and two double-bogeys.
In third place at 130 is Concord at Diablo Creek. Tilden Park GC and Hiddenbrooke CC are tied for fourth at 132.
The two low teams will advance to this year’s NCGA Zone Championship, slated for August 24-25 at Spyglass Hill and Poppy Hills GC.
Tuesday’s final round will see play shift over to par-70 Carmel Valley Ranch.
