Wente Vineyards had an off day, opening the door for Round Hill Country Club.
Round Hill carded a 15-under 127 Friday at par-71 Poppy Hills Golf Course, coming from five strokes back to win the annual NCGA East Bay Zone Championship with a two-day score of 27-under 255. Finishing in second place at 260 was TPC Stonebrae after a final round 130.

With their finishes, both Round Hill and TPC Stonebrae earned spots into this year’s NCGA Zone Championship, slated for August 24-25 at Poppy Hills and Spyglass Hill.
Round Hill, made up of teammates Brian Coburn, Donald Evenson, Paul Lockie and Kevin Wood, posted four eagles and seven birdies to go against two bogeys in a a format that takes the two best net scores per hole of a four-man team. In Thursday’s opening round at par-70 Carmel Valley Ranch, Round Hill opened with a 128.
Also coming from behind was TPC Stonebrae. The TPC Stonebrae squad, made up of teammates Mehdi Sadeghi, John Kim, David Pastor and David Ellis, carded four eagles and four birdies to go with two bogeys. They had entered the final round seven shots off the lead.

Wente Vineyards, who took the first round lead with a 123 at Carmel Valley Ranch, fell back with a 2-under 140 to land in fourth place with a two-day total of 263.
San Ramon, which like Round Hill had come into the finale five behind the leaders, had a final round 133 to finish third at 261.

Wente Vineyards is trying to run away from everyone else at the annual NCGA East Bay Zone Championship.
The Wente Vineyards squad shot a 17-under 123 in Thursday’s first round of the championship at par-70 Carmel Valley Ranch, taking a five shot lead over both Round Hill and San Ramon.
Wente Vineyards, made up of teammates Ron Vyse, Frank Cowle, Chuck Kostalnick and Kevin Yoder, posted six eagles and five birdies to go against just two bogeys in a format that takes the two best net scores per hole of a four-man team.
Both Round Hill and San Ramon finished day one with matching scores of 128. Round Hill, comprised of teammates Brian Coburn, Donald Evenson, Paul Lockie and Kevin Wood, penciled in six eagles and three birdies to go with just three bogeys.
San Ramon, made up of teammates Rand Bottom, Joseph Hui, Robert Perez and Garry Theroux, had five eagles and five birdies to go against five bogeys.
In fourth place at 129, six shots behind the leaders, is Lake Chabot. TPC Stonebrae and Sequoyah Country Club are seven behind after coming in with matching scores of 130.
The two low teams following Friday’s final round will advance to this year’s NCGA Zone Championship, slated for August 24-25 at Poppy Hills and Spyglass Hill.
Friday’s second round will see play shift over to par-71 Poppy Hills.
