Ten players earned spots into this year’s California Amateur Championship in an 18-hole qualifier held Wednesday at par-69 La Rinconada Country Club in Los Gatos.
Ben Doyle of La Jolla, Jeremy Sanchez of Sacramento and Pleasanton’s Adam Yount all shared medalist honors after coming in with matching scores of 1-under 68. Doyle had two birdies and a bogey, while Sanchez posted three birdies and two bogeys. Yount had a slightly more interesting day, posting five birdies to go with four bogeys.
Andrew Matagrano of San Mateo finished fourth at 69, while Drew Bender of Danville and Ben Peters of Redwood City shared fifth place at 70.
The final four players to secure automatic berths also shot 71–Matthew Ashley of San Jose, Danville’s Scott Munger, Louie Chen of San Ramon and Angelo Gandionco of Santa Clara.
This year’s 104th California Amateur Championship will tee off June 22-27 at Lake Merced Golf Club in Daly City.
