Dairy Creek Golf Course emerged victorious at the 49th annual NCGA Zone Championship.
Dairy Creek GC shot a final round 13-under 129 at par-71 Poppy Hills Golf Course on Tuesday, coming from a stroke back to defeat c0-runner-ups Sierra Meadows Country Club and Peacock GC by three shots. The winning Dairy Creek squad had a two-day total of 32-under 254.
Coming off a first round 125 at par-72 Spyglass Hill, Dairy Creek—made up of teammates Chris Eppright, Greg Dzuba, Dan Miller and David Quintel–penciled in five eagles and four birdies to go against just two bogeys in a format that takes the two best net scores per hole of a four-man team.

Sierra Meadows CC, which had entered the final round tied for the lead at 124 with Canyon Oaks CC, shot 133. The Sierra Meadows squad, made up of teammates Clint Jones, Ed Hart, Travis Falany and Fred Phelps, posted two eagles and nine birdies but also suffered a pair of double-bogeys. The Peacock Gap GC squad–Scott Dixon, Ryan McClelland, Rich Manoogian and Bob Bethem–had a 131 that featured six eagles, a birdie, a bogey and a double-bogey.
In a card-off (low back nine score), Sierra Meadows CC was awarded second place.

Defending champion Tulare GC, who was looking to become the first team to repeat as champion, finished 6th at 264 after a final round 131. Canyon Oaks CC fell to 11th place after a 143.

The 49th annual NCGA Zone Championship looks like it’s going to come down to the wire.
Canyon Oaks Country Club and Sierra Meadows CC took the first round lead on Monday, posting identical rounds of 20-under 124 at par-72 Spyglass Hill. Right behind the two leaders are Dairy Creek GC and Oakhurst CC, who are both just a shot back after coming in with matching scores of 125.
Canyon Oaks CC, made up of teammates Kent Rasmussen, Jason Zastrow, David Foreman and James Serrao, had seven eagles and six birdies to go against two bogeys in a format that takes the two best net scores per hole of a four-man team. The Sierra Meadows CC squad, comprised of teammates Clint Jones, Travis Falany, Fred Phelps and Ed Hart, went mistake-free, posting five eagles to go with eight birdies.
Both Dairy Creek GC and Oakhurst CC also had great days. Dairy Creek GC, made up of Greg Dzuba, Chris Eppright, David Quintel and Dan Miller, six eagles and seven birdies to go against a lone bogey. The Oakhurst CC squad of Robert Sawatzky, Rick McGhehey, Todd Jorgensen and Michael Kading, penciled in seven eagles and five birdies to go against just one bogey.
Other teams that are in the hunt include Peacock Gap GC (126) and The Ridge (128).
Defending champion Tulare GC opened with a 133 and is nine shots behind the leaders. No team has ever repeated as champion in the event.
Tuesday’s second round will see play shift over to par-71 Poppy Hills Golf Course.
