In his opening round, De Los Reyes went bogey-free with six birdies. Later in the afternoon, he’d pencil in four more birdies to go against just two bogeys.
Finishing in second and also advancing was Moraga’s Brett Viboch, who shot 142 after posting rounds of 68-74. The third and final spot went to Danville’s Jake Yount, who came in at 143 (71-72) and defeated two players in a playoff that went two holes.
The first alternate is New York’s Brandon Wu (143). The second alternate is Hawaii’s Lorens Chan.
Yount, the winner of the 2012 NCGA Amateur Match Play Championship, will be making his second national championship this year. He played with Tim Mickelson in the inaugural U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship at the Olympic Club.
This year’s U.S. Amateur Championship will be contested Aug. 17-23 at Olympia Fields CC in Illinois.
