Three players, including another one from St. Mary’s, are headed to this year’s U.S. Amateur Championship after advancing through a 36-hole qualifier held Monday at Rancho Murieta Country Club.
Gaels sophomore Roman Aragon led the way, carding a medalist-earning 8-under 134 after posting back-to-back rounds of 67. On the day, Aragon had 11 birdies with just three bogeys.
At a qualifier held last week at Diablo CC, St. Mary’s senior Jonathan De Los Reyes easily won medalist honors, shooting 8-under 132. He’d beat the field by 10 strokes.
The other two players moving on at Rancho Murieta were Bryan Baumgarten of Granite Bay (68-67–135) and Alex Lee of Golf River (68-72–140).
The first alternate is Andrej Bevins of Elk Grove, who came in at 141. The second alternate went to Nickolas Yell of Fair Oaks at 142.
This year’s U.S. Amateur Championship will tee off August 17-23 at Olympia Fields Cc in Illinois.
