It’s the last chance to grab an NCGA title in 2015.
The NCGA season-ending Scramble Championship got underway Monday at par-71 Poppy Hills Golf Course, and not surprisingly the leaderboards are jam packed.
In the Chardonnay Flight, a pair of teams–Aleksei Koika and Bob Jackson and Jason Bisnett and Brandon Berndt–share the lead after coming in at 7-under 64. Koika and Bisnett went bogey-free, collecting seven birdies. Bisnett and Berndt went deeper posting nine birdies, but they’d also have two bogeys.
The team of Michael Lincoln and Rich Estep is alone in third place after a 65.
In the Merlot Flight, Kevin Hawes and Michael Weintz hold the top spot after a 65 that featured seven birdies and a lone bogey.
Right behind Hawes and Weintz at 66 is a cluster of five teams: Yuji Okamoto and Steve Jow, George Vines and James Kleimer, James Horton and Alan Filgas, David Gragnola and Jim Stout and Tab and Tristan French. Okamoto and Jow had the wildest round of the five, posting two eagles (holes No.4 and No.16), four birdies and three bogeys.
Over in the Zinfandel Flight, the tandem of Donald Brown and Jeff Sanderson forged a four shot lead after shooting a 62 that included an eagle, eight birdies and a bogey.
Three squads opened with 66: Dave Schutt and Greg Leuterio, Thomas Boe and Rick Grauman and Robert Nguyen and Richard Adler.
