Spots in the upcoming NCGA Junior Championship were on the line at a pair of qualifiers that were held at Monarch Bay GC and Rancho Canada GC (West Course) on Thursday.
At Monarch Bay, Orinda’s Brendon Choe and Ethan Manolo of San Francisco earned spots are shooting scores of 68 and 76, respectively, in the Boys’ 14-15 division.
In the Boys’ 16-18 division, nine players moved on including medalist Nelson Pang of San Ramon. Pang was the only player to shoot under par, carding a sizzling 7-under 64 that featured eight birdies and a bogey. In Girls’ qualifying, Jackie Caniete of Antioch led the way with a 75, followed by Grace Chen of Sunnyvale at 76. Five Girls’ spots were awarded overall.
Over at Rancho Canada, Derek Ackerman and Devrath Das shared medalist honors in the Boys’ 16-18 division after coming in with matching scores of 71. Nine boys’ in the 16-18 division moved on, including Dakota McNealy (73), who is the younger brother of Stanford star Maverick McNealy.
In the Boys’ 14-15 division qualifier, Caleb Shetler led the way with a 73. Four spots overall were awarded in the Boys’ 14-15 division. In the Boys’ 10-13 division, the lone player advancing was Scout McNealy, who posted a 73.
The Girls’ qualifier at Rancho Canada saw former Santa Catalina High (Monterey) standout Chloe Corriveau lead the way with a medalist-earning 76. Overall, four Girls’ spots were awarded.
This year’s NCGA Junior Championship will tee off July 6-7 at Spyglass Hill.
