There was a repeat winner, and some new faces taking home titles Tuesday at the 11th annual NCGA Women’s Net Amateur Championship.
Playing at par-71 Poppy Hills Golf Course, Maureen Earley of Rolmex Golf Club claimed her second straight title in the Chardonnay Flight, posting a final round 3-over 74 to finish with a two-day total of 6-over 148. She’d defeat runner-up Nicki Anderson of Morro Bay GC by four strokes.
Earley, who opened with a 74, posted five birdies to go against two bogeys and three double-bogeys in the finale. She had entered the final round a stroke behind first round leader Suezette van Staden of Sacramento GC, who fell back into a tie for fifth after an 86.

Anderson had an eagle and three birdies but also posted six bogeys and two-double bogeys for a final round 76 and two-day score of 152.
Third place went to Bayonet/Black Horse GC member Dorothy Donnelly at 156 following her second straight 76. Donnelly had a chance to gain more ground but ended up scoring a quadruple-bogey on the closing 18th. She’d earlier birdied both the par-5 9th and 10th holes.
Over in the Merlot Flight, NCGA Directors member Stacey Baba shot 75 to come in at 149 and defeat runner-up Titiwan Kitapan by a stroke. It was Baba’s first NCGA victory.

Baba, who began the day four strokes behind Kitapan, penciled in an eagle and four birdies to go against three bogeys, a double-bogey and a triple-bogey on the 18th. Her eagle came on the difficult par-4 5th hole.
Kitapan, a member of Singha Masters, was able to only card three birdies a day after penciling seven. She also had seven bogeys a day after having only three.
Finishing in a tie for third in the Merlot Flight at 152 were Judy Madden of San Francisco Bay Area EWGA and Julie Peele of Montclair GC. Madden made her move up the leaderboard with a 71, while Peele shot 77.
In the Zinfandel Flight, Meg Thompson of EWGA Sonoma Marin Napa fired a stellar 1-under 70 to come in at 141, defeating the field by 10 strokes.

Thompson, who opened with a 71, had two eagles (holes No.11 and No.12) and two birdies to go against two bogeys and a quintuple-bogey on the par-5 9th.
Three players finished tied for second at 151–Marcia Wick of Canada College Golf Club, Joanne Segovia of EWGA-Northeast Bay Chapter and Stephanie Krist of EWGA-Sonoma Marin Napa. Wick was awarded second place in a card-off that was determined by the player with the lower score on the back-nine.
Wick made the biggest move, going from an 82 to a sizzling 69 that featured an eagle and eight birdies. Segovia had a final round 72, while Krist shot 73.

A trio of players took the lead in their respective flights as the 11th annual NCGA Women’s Net Amateur Championship got underway on a brilliant Monday at par-71 Poppy Hills Golf Course.
In the Chardonnay Flight, Sacramento GC member Suezette van Staden jumped out to the lead, posting a first round score of 2-over 73. Van Staden’s round included an eagle and four birdies to go with six bogeys and a double-bogey.
Tied for second at 74, just a stroke behind, are Monique Riley of Ruby Hill GC and defending champion Maureen Earley of Rolmex GC. Riley posted an eagle and three birdies but also had three bogeys, a double-bogey and a triple-bogey. Earley had four birdies but also five bogeys and a double-bogey.
In fourth place after a 76 is Morro Bay GC member Nicki Anderson.
Over in the Merlot Flight, Titawan Kitapan of Singha Master took the opening lead, posting a 1-under 70. Kitapan’s round featured seven birdies, three bogeys and a quadruple-bogey on the par-5 18th.
In second place, four back following a 74, is NCGA Directors member Stacey Baba. Baba’s card included four birdies and seven bogeys.
Others in the hunt in the Merlot Flight after day one include Julie Peele of Montclair GC (75) and Lorie Hirahara of San Francisco Bay Area-Ewga (76).
The Zinfandel Flight is also fairly tight. There, Meg Thompson of Sonoma Marin Napa-Ewga took the lead with a 71 that featured seven birdies two double-bogeys and a quadruple-bogey on the 18th.
In second place at 73 is Leslie Lang of Sacramento Chapter-Ewga, while both Kelly Tague of Fore Women Golf Association and Starla Chimienti of Northeast Bay Chapter-Ewga are tied for third at 74.
Tuesday’s final round tees off at 7:30 a.m. at Poppy Hills.
