Sonoma County Golfer Gets Two Aces in Same Round
June 5, 2014
Some players go a whole career without one. Jeff Wallahan got two in one round.
A little more than two weeks ago, the 52-year-old longtime Sonoma County resident won golf’s version of the lottery at Foxtail Golf Club in Rohnert Park, making two hole-in-ones during an 18 hole round.
Wallahan, a 20-handicapper, nabbed his first ace on the 118-yard, par-3 6th using an 8-iron. Later, he’d get another ace on his next par-3, the 148-yard 16th.
“I’m a hacker,” Wallahan told Bob Padecky of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat. “Look, I can take a club, hit a beautiful shot, then take that same club the very next hole, in the same situation, and hit it out of bounds,” Wallahan said. “How did that happen? I don’t know.”
According to the National Hole-In-One Registry, the odds of two aces in the same round are a mere 1 in 67 million. The odds of getting attacked by a shark are 1 in 11.5 million.
But it can happen. During a practice round for the 2012 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, Swedish pro Daniel Chopra aced not just the world-famous par-3 7th hole at Pebble Beach, but also the historic 17th.
