Sean Dyer shot a final round 66 to come from behind and win the annual Santa Cruz City Amateur Sunday at DeLaveaga Golf Course in Santa Cruz.
Dyer, who played for nearby Cabrillo College in 2002 and 2007, finished the 36-hole event with a score of 2-under 138.
“It’s a load off my shoulders,” Dyer told the Santa Cruz Sentinel. “I put so much pressure on myself to play well out here. And you just can’t do that.”
A former DeLaveaga employee, the 33-year-old Dyer defeated runner-up Patrick Soli, who plays at UC Davis, by a stroke after Soli came in at 139 following a final round 71.
UC Santa Barbara’s Tyler Zaentz was third at 141 following a 68.
In the Senior Championship, Sunnyvale’s Jim Knoll continued his fantastic year. Knoll shot 142 to win the title by four over runner-up Rich Gleghorn (146) of Santa Cruz.
Santa Cruz’ Neil Duffy placed third in the Senior Championship at 147.
