The annual Jim Lathum Salinas City Match Play and Senior Match Play Championships got underway with three of the top four seeds advancing through the first two rounds.
Medalist and No.1 seed Will Cross advanced to the quarterfinals with a pair of wins, as did No.3 seed Scott Morris and No.4 seed Austin Roberts. No.2 seed Jim Knoll was not as fortunate, falling in the second round to No.18 Ken Munroe. Knoll has earned NCGA Senior Player of the Year honors each of the three past years.
The championship will continue on Saturday with the quarterfinals and semifinals, followed by the 36-hole finales on Sunday.
