Feb. 15-16, 2014
Herb Jensen, who represented the NCGA in last fall’s NCGA-NCPGA Cup Matches, fired a medalist-earning even-par 72 on the Presidio Course to earn the No.2 seed in the Senior division of the San Francisco City Championship.
Defending S.F. Senior champion Gary Vanier will be the No. 1 seed when match play begins Saturday on the Presidio Course. Eight players will play for the last two match play spots on Saturday prior to the first round.
In Super Senior play, Bob Olds earned the No.2 seed after carding a medalist-earning 76. Olds will be the No.2 seed because defending champion Ron Johnson of Walnut Creek is in the field.
Both Vanier and Johnson parlayed success in the S.F. City to future wins in NCGA events in 2013. Vanier won the NCGA Senior Championship while Johnson captured the NCGA Super Senior Championship.
Match play in the Super Senior division will commence March 1 at the Presidio.
Women’s championship match play will begin Sunday at the Presidio, as will Women’s Open (Juli Inkster bracket) match play.
In the Women’s championship, the person to beat will be No.1 seed and defending champion Casie Cathrea. Cathrea, who recently left Oklahoma State, is playing in a few more amateur events before pursuing her professional career. Last year, the Livermore resident rolled to a 10 and 8 win in the finals.
