While his brother Shintaro Ban was busy winning the San Francisco City Championship, Cal sophomore Shotaro Ban picked up his own victory.
Shotaro Ban, the older of the two, shot a final round 5-under 66 and birdied the first playoff hole to win the amateurgolf.com Diablo Valley Amateur Championship at Shadow Lakes Golf Club in Brentwood.
Ban (pictured left), who finished the two-day event at 137 (71-66), defeated Orinda’s Jim Coon, Antioch’s Taylor Hobin and Patrick Grimes of Palo Alto in what was a four-man playoff.
Coon had been the first round leader after opening with a 67. Grimes made the biggest final round push, carding a day-low 64.
In the Senior championship, Gary Conklin walked away with the title with a two-day score of 144.
Vincent Steele of Concord shot rounds of 64-65 to run away with a seven-stroke win in the Net championship. San Francisco resident Kevin Logan was runner-up at 136. It was Steele’s second straight win in the Net division.
