Fullerton resident Stephanie Lau and seven others are headed to this year’s U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship.
Lau paved the way by shooting a medalist earning 2-under 68 in a sectional qualifier held Monday at par-70 Sequoyah Country Club.
She’d play solid golf, carding four birdies to go with just two bogeys.
Recent CSU-Monterey Bay grad and NCGA Women’s Amateur champion Audra Kepler also advanced, carding a 70.
Jordan Lippetz of Oakland moved on as well, finishing third at 71.
The five other players advancing through the qualifier were San Jose State star Regina De Guzman (72), Manteca’s Brooke Riley (72), Bethany Wu of Diamond Bar (73), Palo Alto’s Jayshree Sarathy (73) and Brea’s Amy Lee (73). De Guzman recently finished third at the Monterey City Amateur Championship. She was one of only two females competing in the event.
The first alternate is Carmen Gutierrez Ballon, who shot 75 along with second alternate Kathleen Scavo of Benicia. Scavo recently competed in the U.S. Women’s Open.
