Amateur Jeff Wilson of Fairfield is headed to this year’s U.S. Senior Open.
Wilson shot a medalist-earning 4-under 68 in a qualifier for the championship held Monday at par-72 Green Valley Country Club.
Starting on the 10th hole, Wilson slipped early with a bogey on the 11th. From there though, he was flawless, going bogey free with five birdies. Wilson hs been the medalist in three U.S. Mid-Ams, and advanced to the semifinals in each of those events.
Professionals Rob Boldt of Concord and Rodney Wilson of Burlingame finished tied for second with a pair of 70’s. Boldt grabbed the second spot in a playoff. Wilson is first alternate.
Amateur Ron Collet earned second alternate after finishing at 71.
This year’s U.S. Senior Open will be held July 10-13 at Oak Tree National Golf Club in Oklahoma.
