Samuel Kim of Irvine and Matt Marrese of Bellevue, Wash. punched their tickets to this year’s U.S. Junior Amateur Championship.
Kim, senior-to-be at Northwood High, and Marrese finished as medalist and runner-up, respectively, in Monday’s 36-hole qualifier held at par-72 Riverbend GC in Fresno.
Kim was on fire, finishing the day at 7-under 137 after rounds of 68-69. Over his 36 holes, Kim carded 11 birdies to go with just four bogeys.
Marrese took second at 145 (73-72), eight shots behind Kim.
Marrese’s day included seven birdies, six bogeys and a double-bogey. Modesto residents Daniel Pea and Matthew Robinson finished fifth and sixth, respectively, after coming in at 148 and 149.
This year’s U.S. Junior Amateur Championship will be held July 21-26 at the Club at Carlton Woods in The Woodlands, Texas.
