A pair of Northern California players will be in the field for what will be the final U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship.
Campbell resident Ryan Sloane and St. Mary’s standout Jonathan De Los Reyes both earned spots in the championship by finishing first and second, respectively, in a 36-hole qualifier held Wednesday at par-72 Boundary Oak Golf Course.
Sloane, a two-time winner of the NCGA Four-Ball Championship, earned medalist honors by finishing at 11-under 133 (63-70). In his morning round, Sloane was on fire. He’d card two eagles to go with six birdies and just one bogey to take a three shot lead over the field.
De Los Reyes, winner of this year’s Alameda Commuters Championship and the current leader in the NCGA Points standings for Player of the Year honors, was also strong in the morning, posting a 6-under 66 that featured one eagle and four birdies. He’d card a second round 69 to finish at 135, two behind Sloane.
Nabbing the third and last automatic berth was New Mexico resident Patrick Beyhan, who finished at 139 (68-71).
This year’s U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship will be held July 14-19 at Sand Creek Station GC in Kansas.
