Pebble Beach resident Kraig McLeod punched his ticket, and then waited to see how the rest of the field would fare.
McLeod, who plays at the University of Colorado, shot a medalist-earning 7-under 137 to advance through a qualifier for this year’s U.S. Amateur held Monday at par-72 Santa Rosa Country Club.
McLeod had rounds of 70-67. Overall, the former Carmel High standout nabbed 12 birdies to go with just three bogeys and a double-bogey.
After McLeod, four players came in tied for second at 140. Thing was, there were only three total spots available.
In a playoff, Cody Riecks of Auburn and Alex Marry of San Clemete earned the final two spots. During regulation, Riecks had rounds of 72-68 while Marry shot 69-71.
The first alternate spot went to Tanner Makimoto of Roseville. The second alternate spot is Isaiah Salinda of South San Francisco.
