A trio of players punched their tickets to the upcoming U.S. Amateur Championship.
Danville resident Cody Blick led the field, earning medalist honors with a 36-hole score of 10-under 134 in a qualifier held Monday at par-72 Castlewood Country Club.
Blick’s play was stellar in both rounds, In the morning session, he carded five birdies with just one bogey for a 68. In the afternoon round, Blick went even deeper, posting a 66 that featured seven birdies and just one bogey.
Also earning berths by placing second and third, respectively, were Walker Huddy of Studio City and Lorens Chan of Honolulu.
Huddy had rounds of 67-68 to come in at 135, while Chan shot 66-70 for a 136.
The first alternate spot went to Livermore’s Tanner Hughes, who came in fourth at 137 after rounds of 66-71. The second alternate is Patrick Grimes of Palo Alto, who shot a pair of 69’s for 138. Grimes had to beat out four other players in a playoff.
This year’s U.S. Amateur Championship will tee off August 11-17 at Atlanta Athletic Club in Atlanta, Georgia.
