San Jose Country Club staged a comeback to get the job done.
San Jose Country Club, comprised of teammates Daryl Ishizaki, Glen Tachibana, Mike Avery and David Farwell, shot 18-under 126 Friday at par-72 Del Monte Golf Course to win the NCGA South Bay Zone Championship by one over runner-up Valley Gardens Golf Course (Santa Cruz).

The San Jose Country Club squad carded seven eagles and six birdies to go with one bogey in the finale to finish at 31-under 253.
They’d come back from a six stroke deficit in the championship, which utilizes a format that takes the two best net scores per hole of a four-man team.
In Thursday’s first round at par-70 Carmel Valley Ranch, San Jose Country Club had opened with a 13-under 137.
Valley Gardens GC, comprised of James Catalano, Ryan Kalem, Zack Wright and Gerald Catalano, shot a second round, bogey-free 129 to come in at 254. Valley Gardens GC also came from behind, having entered the final round tied for fourth.
Valley Gardens GC would make its big move with four eagles and six birdies. Their other eight holes were all pars.
With their finishes, both San Jose Country Club and Valley Garden GC earned automatic spots into this year’s NCGA Zone Championship, which will tee off August 25-26 at Poppy Hills Golf Course and Spyglass Hill.
First round leader Silver Creek Valley Country Club (San Jose), which had opened with a 19-under 121 at Carmel Valley Ranch, slipped to a 134 at Del Monte. The finish left Silver Creek Valley CC, made up of teammates Dennis Root, Michael Ward, Skipp Harvey and John Yu, in a tie for third place with Eagle Ridge Golf Club (Gilroy).

A day after carding nine eagles and two birdies, Silver Creek had four birdies but only four eagles. Eagle Ridge, comprised of teammates Serge Mirabeau, Todd Antepenko, Don Sunseri and John Vetrano, has six eagles and four birdies but also suffered a critical double-bogey on the par-4 5th.
Saratoga Golf Club, which had entered the final round in second after a first round 122 at Carmel Valley Ranch, also fell backwards, carding a 138 at Del Monte to finish tied for seventh.

Silver Creek Valley Country Club of San Jose jumped into the lead after day one of the South Bay Zone Championship at par-70 Carmel Valley Ranch Resort.
Silver Creek CC, comprised of Dennis Root, Michael Ward, Skipp Harvey and John Yu, shot a first round 19-under 121 on Thursday in a format that takes the two best net scores per hole of a four-man team. The Silver Creek squad posted nine eagles, two birdies and two bogeys on their round.
A stroke back at 122 is Saratoga Country Club, which is made up of teammates Mike Borsum, Ismar Maslic, Matt Weigel and Jack Smith. Saratoga CC made its move with seven eagles and five birdies. But they also had a bogey.
Currently alone in third place is Santa Clara Golf Club. Santa Clara GC, comprised of Michael Whitehead, Edgar Romero, Tom Norman and Brad Christofferson, shot 124. The Santa Clara GC team carded five eagles and seven birdies to go with one bogey.
In a tie for fourth at 125 are Valley Gardens Golf Course (Santa Cruz) and Eagle Ridge Golf Club (Gilroy).
Valley Gardens consists of James Catalano, Ryan Kalem, Zack Wright and Gerald Catalano. Eagle Ridge is being represented by Serge Mirabeau, Todd Antepenko, Don Sunseri and John Vetrano.
Friday’s second round will be held at par-72 Del Monte Golf Course in Monterey.
The two low teams will advance to the NCGA Zone Championship, slated for August 25-26 at Poppy Hills Golf Course and Spyglass Hill.
