Spots in the upcoming NCGA Masters Division Championship were on the line as qualifying was held at five different sites on Thursday.
Over at par-72 Darkhorse Golf Club in Auburn, Dean Clapp of Rancho Murieta GC led the way with a solid 1-under 71. Coming in second at 72 was Dave Swanson of Del Paso CC, while Jon Peterson of Granite Bay GC took third at 73. Overall, 19 spots were awarded in the qualifier at Darkhorse.
At par-72 Hiddenbrooke Golf Club in Vallejo, both Darren Weber of Stanford GC and Meadow Club member Kevin Kobalter shared medalist honors with identical 3-under 69’s. Scott Morris and Mark Mance shared second place after coming in with a pair of 71’s. The Hiddenbrooke qualifier had 21 automatic spots available.
The qualifier at par-72 Riverbend Golf Club in Madera had nine automatic berths available. There, Rob Adolph of San Joaquin CC led the pack with a medalist-earning 70. Coming in at 72, in second, was Troy Williams.
Over at par-72 Roddy Ranch Golf Club in Antioch, club members Steve Wilson, Dominic Debellis and Mark Casey all used local knowledge to share first place with scores of 2-under 70. Jim Williams of Orinda CC had the next lowest score, shooting a 70. The Roddy Ranch qualifier had 17 spots available.
In Hollister, another qualifier was held at par-72 San Juan Oaks Golf Club. There, Tehama GC member Jerry Ledzinski and Monterey Pines member Mike Armstrong led the way with co-medalist scores of 72. Jason Calvillo of Boulder Ridge was next in at 73. The San Juan Oaks qualifier awarded 28 spots.
This year’s NCGA Masters Division (age 40-over) Championship will be held June 9-10 at Spyglass Hill and historic Del Monte Golf Course.
