Fresno’s Doug Johnson is one of 10 players who are headed to this year’s CGA Senior Amateur Championship.
Johnson punched his ticket to the championship Tuesday, carding a medalist-earning even-par 71 in a qualifier held at Nicklaus Club Monterey. Johnson’s round over the par-71 layout included three birdies and three bogeys.
Also advancing were Rich Rowley of San Jose, Dennis Dachtler of Folsom and Somerset’s Bill Bates, who all came in with matching 72’s.
Conrad Nilmeier of Fresno and Clayton Davis of San Luis Obispo also moved on after identical scores of 73.
The final four automatic spots went to Salinas’ Kimble Cater, Mark Morgan of El Dorado Hills, Craig Ling of Monterey and San Jose’s Ray Kong. They all shot 74.
This year’s CGA Senior Amateur Championship will tee off November 10-12 at Poppy Hills GC.
