Fifteen players earned their tickets into the upcoming CGA Senior Amateur Championship in a qualifier held Tuesday at par-72 Blackhawk GC in Danville.
Leading the way was Vallejo resident Steve Hendrick, who came in with a medalist-earning 72. Hendrick was a par machine, as he’d card only one birdie to go with one bogey.
Finishing in a tied for second at 73 were Gregory Zipp of San Francisco, Bob Burnett of Piedmont and Jim Rossiter of Danville.
Also moving on was Bob Schoenherr of San Jose (74) and Lodi’s Charles Richesin, Sacramento’s David Baskins, Fremont’s James Hay and Sacramento’s Russ Watts, who all came in with matching 75’s.
Those advancing with scores of 76 were David Bosley of Copperopolis, Santa Rosa’s Greg O’Malley and Orangevale’s Gerald Mraule.
The final three spots came down to a playoff between six players who finished at 77. Those emerging through the playoff were Richard Petit of Menlo Park, Washington’s Jim McNelis and Tom Marks of Carmichael.
This year’s CGA Senior Amateur Championship will tee off November 10-12 at Poppy Hills.
