Shelter Cove Golf Course came from behind to win the title.
Shelter Cove GC fired a 17-under 127 Friday at par-72 Del Monte GC in Monterey to win the NCGA North Zone title by two strokes over runner-up Benbow Golf Course. The good news for both teams is that they each qualified for the NCGA Zone Championship, to be held August 25-26 at Poppy Hills GC and Spyglass Hill.
The Shelter Cover squad, made up of teammates Justin Graham, Arlin Reid, Burke Adrian and Joseph Christianson, had eight eagles, two birdies and only one bogey in the crucial final round. A day earlier at par-70 Carmel Valley Ranch, Shelter Cove had opened with an 11-under 129.
Benbow GC, made up of teammates William Coffelt, Jon Lefebre, Danny Jensen and Terry Kersey, snuck into second behind a 127 that featured seven eagles, six birdies and three bogeys.
Placing third at 259, just a stroke behind Benbow GC, was Anderson Tucker Oaks Golf Club. The Anderson Tucker Oaks GC squad, comprised of Steve Hern, Pat Jenson, Marv Barton and Kao Fong, shot a final round 128 that included five eagles, six birdies, two bogeys and a double-bogey.
First round leader Sevillano Links, who had opened with a 13-under 127 at Carmel Valley Ranch, fell back into a tie for fifth after a round of 135.

Sevillano Links is the team to chase after the first round of the NCGA North Zone Championship.
Sevillano Links, made up of teammates Rick Wagner, Tim Pata, Robert Rounsaville and Mike McKa, took the lead in the North Zone Championship on Thursday with a 13-under 127 at par-70 Carmel Valley Ranch. The Sevillano Links team went on a spree, carding six eagles and three birdies to go with three bogeys.
Eureka GC, made up of teammates Joe Gossi, Jacob Howsmon, Rafael Herrera and Glenn Vickers, was tied for second at 129 with El Rancho Chico and Shelter Cover. The Eureka GC team had seven eagles, three birdies, a bogey and a double-bogey.
The Shelter Cove GC team is made up of teammates Justin Graham, Arlin Reid, Burke Adrian and Joseph Christianson. El Rancho Chico is comprised of teammates Jeff Blocker, Mark L. Streets, Cliff Kitayama and Duane Wilk.
The two low teams following Friday’s second round will advance to this year’s NCGA Zone Championship, slated for August 25-26 at Poppy Hills GC and Spyglass Hill.
Friday’s second round will be held at par-72 Del Monte GC in Monterey.
