Spots in the upcoming NCGA Senior Net Championship were on the line as qualifying for the event was held at eight different courses on Thursday.
At par-72 Ancil Hoffman Golf Course in Sacramento, Gerry Galvin of Lake Wildwood GC led the way with a medalist-earning 62. Coming in second at 66 were Jim Edwards (Tahoe Mountain GC) and Raymond Edison (Ridge GC). Overall, 29 spots were awarded at Ancil Hoffman.
Over at par-72 Boundary Oak Golf Course in Walnut Creek, Bill Seiden of Wildhorse GC led the way with a 67, followed by Tom Mojzes, who came in with a 69. The Boundary Oaks qualifier awarded 13 outright spots in the championship.
The qualifier at par-71 Castle Oaks Golf Course in Ione saw two players finish at the top. Both Jim Rooney, a Castle Oaks member, and Phil Dodge of Modesto GC shot 64 to share medalist honors. The next lowest qualifier was Robert Long, who came in at 67. The Castle Oaks GC qualifier awarded nine total spots.
In Burlingame, eight players got through a qualifier held at par-70 Crystal Springs Golf Course. The low was a 68 posted by e-Club South Bay member Jeff Wong, who shot 68. Right on his heels was Bob Therrien, who came in with a 69.
Over at par-70 Mare Island Golf Course in Vallejo, Benbow GC member Terry Kersey paved the way with a medalist-earning 67. Overall, seven players earned automatic spots into the championship at Mare Island.
It was also a busy day at Poppy Ridge Golf Course in Livermore. There, Rick Grauman was medalist in one qualifier on the par-72 Chardonnay and Merlot tracks, shooting a 64. Three players–Robert Nguyen, James Haas and Mike Lovas–were next at 67.
Playing the Zinfandel and Merlot nines, Anthony Fisher of Pajaro Valley Golf Club took medalist honors with a 68. Fisher would just beat out Joyce Glatt, who finished with a 69 for second place. A total of 36 spots were awarded in the two qualifiers held at PoppyRidge.
At par-72 Ridgemark Golf and Country Club in Hollister, James McLay led the way with a stellar 66. Ed Hare finished second at 69. Ten spots were awarded in the qualifier at Ridgemark.
The 51st annual NCGA Senior Net Championship will be contested June 2-3 at historic Del Monte Golf Course in Monterey.
