Spots in the upcoming NCGA Public Links Championship and Public Links Net Championship were on the line as six qualifiers were held at six different sites on Thursday.
Over at San Juan Oaks GC in Hollister, a total of 15 spots were available in the championship proper. Kevin Noto, who won the 2013 men’s club title at Eagle Ridge GC, led the way with a 3-under 69. Also coming in under par was Bayonet/Black Horse GC member Matt Vigilante, who posted a 70.
Up north at par-72 Rancho Solano GC, there were nine spots available. Aleksei Kolka was medalist with a 1-under 71, with Steve Hendrick coming in second at 72.
Deer Ridge GC, Roddy Ranch GC and San Geronimo GC also hosted qualifiers. At par-71 Deer Ridge, medalist Taylor Habin, who plays out of E-club East Bay, fired a 68 to earn one of seven spots. Hobin bested the field by seven strokes.
Over at par-72 Roddy Ranch, Steve Wilson took advantage of the friendly surroundings. Wilson, a Roddy Ranch member, was medalist with a 68. Daniel Griffiths, playing out of E-club San Francisco, also broke par with a 71. The par-72 San Geronimo course saw Richard Highsmith walk away as medalist after a 75.
The qualifier at par-71 Elkhorn GC in Sacramento also turned out to be a test as the low score was an 80 by Craig White. Three other players at Elkhorn earned spots.
In Net championship qualifying, E-club North Bay member Chris Ladd had the low round at all six sites, posting a 61 at Roddy Ranch. Also going low was Mark May, who shot a 62 in the qualifier at San Juan Oaks.
Overall, 46 spots in the Net championship were awarded at the combined six sites.
The 49th annual NCGA Public Links Championship will be held March 31 and April 1 and Spyglass Hill GC and Bayonet/Black Horse GC, respectively. The 49th annual Net Championship will be held the same weekend at Bayonet/Black Horse and Spyglass Hill.
