NAPA – U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship Qualifying took place Monday at Silverado Resort’s North Course with four women advancing to next month’s championship.
Leading the way and earning medalist honors with a score of 3-over-par 75 was Holly Bare of Clovis. The 30-year-old respectable score included 15 pars and three bogeys, with all three coming over a three-hole stretch as she bogeyed Nos. 5, 6 and 7.
Earning second place and a spot in the championship, finishing one shot back was Lynne Cowan of Rocklin. The 50-year-old struggled early in her round with bogeys on Nos. 1, 3, and 6 and a double bogey on No. 9 to turn at 5-over-par. However, Cowan showed mettle on the back-nine making eight pars and a birdie to finish with a 4-over-par 76.
Patricia Cornett of Mill Valley finished alone in third place with a score of 5-over-par 77. The 59-year-old didn’t have any red numbers in her round, but limited her mistakes making 13 pars and five bogeys. Earning the fourth and final spot with a 7-over-par 79 was Renata Young of Walnut Creek. The 31-year-old had six bogeys and a double-bogey over her first 14 holes, but finished off strong with a birdie on No. 15 and three more pars to break 80.
The four players qualify for the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship October 5-10 at Biltmore Forest CC in Asheville, N.C.
