SANTA CRUZ – Lynne Cowan earned medalist honors at USGA Senior Women’s Amateur Qualifying on Tuesday at Pasatiempo GC. Cowan fired a score of five-over-par 77 to lead a group of nine women to qualify for next month’s national championship at CordeValle GC in San Martin.
The Rocklin resident scored two birdies on the day on Nos. 6 and 16 to go along with seven bogeys, which was good enough for medalist honors. Two strokes back and tied for second place were a pair of two-time NCGA Senior Women’s Amateur Champions, Patricia Cornett and Sandra Woodruff at seven-over-par 79. In fourth place at eight-over-par 80 were Lisa Cobler of Pleasanton and Terry Mayes of Gilroy. Alone in sixth with an 82, 10-over-par was Watsonville’s Juvy Timan, while in seventh place with an 83, 11-over-par was Rachel Moreaux of San Rafael. The final two spots went to eighth place finisher Ann Huber of Fresno, who finished with an 84, and ninth place finisher Lori Elliot with an 86.
The USGA Senior Women’s Amateur Championship will take place September 21-26 at CordeValle GC.
