WOODLAND – Four players advanced to the U.S. Junior Championship next month at Yolo Fliers Club on Monday. Corey Eddings, Cody Riecks, Amay Poria and Blake Abercrombie each posted low enough scores to advance, with two players needing to survive through a playoff.
Eddings of Roseville was the low man of the group firing a 36-hole of 140, four-under-par. He opened with a three-under-par 69, which included five birdies and a double-bogey. In the afternoon, Eddings posted a one-under-par 71, a much more bland round that included 15 pars, two birdies and one bogey.
Riecks of Auburn finished solo second with a 36-hole score of 142, two-under-par. The Auburn resident posted a two-under-par 70 in the morning, a round which consisted of five birdies and three bogeys. For his second 18, Riecks shot a level-par 72, but it was anything but level making five birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey.
Poria of Morgan Hill and Abercrombie of Rocklin tied for third at 143, one-under-par along with Alexander Lee of Sacramento. With the three players fighting for the two spots, the sudden-death playoff ended rather quickly as Poria and Abercrombie advanced after the first hole with pars, while Lee took bogey. Lee, respectively earned first alternate, while second alternate went to South San Francisco’s Isaiah Salinda at 144, even-par.
The 2013 U.S. Junior Championship takes place in Northern California this summer as it will be held at Martis Camp in Truckee, July 22-27.
