PEBBLE BEACH – NCGA Stroke Play Qualifying took place at five different Northern California courses on Friday with several players qualifying for next month’s championship.
Del Monte GC in Monterey held the largest qualifier with 31 players advancing to the championship. Leading the way with the low score was Joe Huston and Kevin Andrews, who each fired rounds of four-under-par 68. Only two other players were able to break par as Andrew Rodriguez and Evan McLeod finished at one-under-par 71, while two players finished at even-par 72: Austin Roberts and Ben Peters. The cutoff score was 79 as all but one player who shot 79 or better qualified.
Shared medalist honors also occurred at Coyote Creek GC in San Jose with Matthew Miller and Matt Williams each posting a score of two-under-par 70. Coyote Creek GC had a similarly large field to Del Monte as 30 golfers total qualified. In a tie for third at even-par 72 were Bradley Knox and Travis Rowney, while six players tied for fifth at one-over-par 73. The last qualifying scores carded were rounds of six-over-par 78, with only three of those players qualifying.
Roddy Ranch GC in Antioch had 18 players qualify from its site with Daniel Butcher and Andy Butcher sharing low honors. Butcher and Nevin each fired a score of one-under-par 71 to lead the 18 qualifying scores. Current points’ leader Russell Humphrey finished tied for third with Jim Coon at two-over-par 74. Qualifying scores at Roddy Ranch proved to be higher as the final player to qualify captured a spot with a nine-over-par 81.
Three players shared medalist honors at Paradise Valley GC in Fairfield as Jeff Hanson, Drew Bender and Mark Mance posted a score of even-par 72. Kevin Kobalter and Travis Evans finished tied for fourth, each with a one-over-par 73. Four players qualified with a score of 74, seven qualified with a score of 76 and one player qualified with a 77 to makeup the 17 available spots.
Results from Haggin Oaks GC hadn’t come in as of Monday. All results are unofficial until scorecards have been verified by the NCGA staff. The NCGA Stroke Play Championship will take place July 12-14 at Bayonet / Black Horse GC.
