FAIRFIELD – Two Jeffs secured spots for the 2013 U.S. Senior Open Championship on Monday at Green Valley CC. Jeff Brehaut, a professional out of Los Altos, and Jeff Wilson, an amateur from Fairfield. Both players fired scores of three-under-par 69 to capture the two available spots and did so in a similar fashion.
Brehaut, who started off the No. 10 tee, opened his round with birdies on Nos. 11 and 16 and a bogey on No. 17 to make the turn at one-under. Then the Los Altos resident scored back-to-back birdies on Nos. 1 and 2 and followed that with seven straight pars to finish at three-under. Wilson also started off No. 10 and opened with three birdies early (Nos. 10, 11 and 15) before taking a bogey (No. 16) to make the turn at two-under. The Green Valley CC member would then add two more birdies (Nos. 2 and 8) and a bogey (No. 5) to finish at three-under-par.
Coming up just short and one shot back were a pair of players at two-under-par 70, Don Levin of Elk Grove and Dan Bieber of Alamo. Respectively, Levin earned first alternate and Bieber earned second alternate. Finishing well back with a score of 10-over-par 82 was amateur Brandon Kavrell of South Lake Tahoe, but Kavrell had a shot he’ll take with him for a lifetime, acing No. 7 with a 6-iron.
The U.S. Senior Open Championship will take place July 11-14 at Omaha CC in Omaha, Neb.
