LIVERMORE – NCGA Junior Championship Qualifying took place at Las Positas GC on Thursday with 28 spots available among 69 participants. Of those 28, seven were for the girls division, while the remaining 21 went to the three different boys division.
The biggest division was the boys 14-15 age group, which had 20 players competing for 10 spots. Winning comfortably and firing the low score across all flights was Matt Lloyd with a score of 70. Louie Chen was in second place and not too far behind with a score of 72, while solo third place went to Albert Im at 74. Four players tied for fourth with a score of 77: Ryan Johnson, Cian Mahony, Hayden Hui and Alex Chin. In ninth place at 79 was Nelson Pang, while in 10th earning the final spot with an 80 was Nikhil Swaminahan.
The boys 16-18 division had seven spots with 13 players competing. Tying for medalist honors with a 75 were Jack Tilly and Daniel Connolly. Raja Deal, Thomas Huddleston, Austin Riley and Charlie Cameron earned a spot with a 76, while Read Buzby was the last to qualify with a 78.
Andrew Chern won the boys 13 and under division qualifying with a score of 71. He was three shots clear of second place finishers Brenden Hy and Daniel Kim at 74. The fourth player to qualify out of 15 players was Gianluca Mori with a 76.
The girls division saw 21 players battle it out for seven spots with Tyler Akabane earning medalist honors with a 73. Bibliani Liu, Angela Bagasbas and Samantha Gong tied for second each firing a score of 76. Brianna Areia finished fifth with a 77, Megan Conder was sixth with a 78 and the final spot went to Rose Friedman scoring a 79.
The NCGA Junior Championship will take place on July 8-9 at Spyglass Hill GC. All results are unofficial until scorecards from the event have been verified by NCGA staff.
