MONTEREY – Don Boline, Frank Carr, John Hernandez and Tim Robertson of Fresno Airways GC went wire to wire to win the NCGA South Valley Zone Championship at Del Monte GC Tuesday. The quartet of golfers followed their first round score of 122 at Quail Lodge GC, with a 130 at Del Monte GC to total 252, 34-under par in a format which takes the two best net scores per hole of a four-man team. Fresno Airways GC had plenty of red on its scorecard, scoring a net double eagle, two net eagles and eight net birdies to go along with only one net bogey.
Taking second place was Lemoore GC at 256, 30-under par, who followed their first round of 127 with a 129. The Lemoore GC team featuring Hector Cervantes, Manuel Cervantes, Genaro Martinez and Kelly Toomey had to beat Sherwood Forest GC in a sudden-death playoff to earn the second championship qualifying spot as both teams finished at the 30-under par mark. Starting the day alone in third place, the four-man team was bolstered by a net triple eagle on the 18th along with four net eagles and four net birdies, while only making one net bogey. Missing the playoff for second place by a single stroke were three teams finishing at 257, 29-under par: Belmont CC, Copper River CC and Visalia CC.
With their performances Fresno Airways GC and Lemoore GC qualify to play in the 47th Annual NCGA Zone Championship at Spyglass Hill GC and Del Monte GC, August 26-27.

CARMEL – The Fresno Airways GC team of Don Boline, Frank Carr, John Hernandez and Tim Robertson captured the first round lead of the NCGA South Valley Zone Championship at Quail Lodge GC, Monday. The four-man squad put together a net score of 122, 20-under par in a format which takes the two best net scores per hole of a four-man team. The key stretch of golf for Fresno Airways came between Nos. 13-16, where the quartet of golfers converted four consecutive net eagles. They also had two additional net eagles, seven net birdies, a net bogey and net double bogey.
Four strokes back and alone in second is the team of Eagle Springs GC at 126, 16-under par. Bobby Garcia, Bruce Jackson, Joseph Palmer and Jack Spann recorded three net double eagles, three net eagles and seven net birdies on the day. However, Eagle Springs GC wasn’t without their mistakes making a net bogey, net double bogey and net triple bogey. Alone in third place is Lemoore GC at 127, 15-under par, while Kings CC is in fourth place at 128, 14-under par. Tied for fifth at 129, 13-under par are Visalia CC and Copper River CC
The final round of the NCGA South Valley Zone Championship will take place tomorrow at Del Monte GC. The top two teams will advance to the 47th Annual NCGA Zone Championship at Spyglass Hill and Del Monte CG, August 26-27.
