CARMEL – Saratoga CC went low in the final round of the South Bay Zone Championship at Quail Lodge GC on Friday. The four-man team of Tom Cook, David Gragnola, Augustus Kamburis and Keith Paulson fired a net score of 22-under 120—in a format which takes the two best net scores per hole of a four-man team—to come from behind and win the championship outright with a 36-hole score of 246, 40-under par. The quartet of golfers began the day in a three-way tie for fourth, three shots off the lead, but shot by far the lowest score of the other 23 teams competing to vault up to the top of the leaderboard.
The next best score of the day was a 125, which two teams posted and both happened to earn second and third place, respectively. Steven Domnauer, George Hall, Paul Nadeau and Robert Wellner of Coyote Creek GC edged out Eagle Ridge GC with a 36-hole score of 250 to 251, good enough to punch their tickets to the championship four months from today. Taking fourth place after capturing the first round lead was Cinnabar Hills GC, who followed yesterday’s 123 at Del Monte GC with a 138 to finish at 261. Rounding out the top five was Los Lagos GC at 262.
With their performances, Saratoga CC and Coyote Creek GC will compete in the 47th Annual NCGA Zone Championship August 26-27 at Spyglass Hill GC and Del Monte GC.

The team of Bart Krogen, Jeff Krogen, Doug Mullins and Scott Rhine posted a score 123, 21-under par in a format which takes the best two net scores per hole of a four-man team. On the back nine Cinnabar Hills’ success continued with two net eagles, a net double-eagle and two net birdies. The team’s only flaws came on the 17th and 18th holes where they netted a double-bogey and bogey.
