CARMEL – Angel Yin of Arcadia won her second California Women’s Amateur Championship in three years, taking a 4 up lead in the morning before closing out 2009 champion Casie Cathrea 2 and 1 in 35 holes.
Yin, who is just 14, also won the 2010 title by beating Cathrea in the semifinals. Cathrea, a 16-year-old from Livermore, will play golf at Oklahoma State next fall.
Cathrea was 4 down through 27 holes, but won holes 12 and 14 to get back into the match. But Yin maintained control of the match by matching birdies with Cathrea on the par-5 No. 15 to stay 2 up. Cathrea had a chance to send the finals to the 36th hole of the day, but three-putted to end the match.
