MATHER – Jeff Burda jumped back into the top five of the Senior Player of the Year race with a win at the 200-point California State Fair Senior Championship. The Modesto resident fired a two-day total of five-under par 139 for his third individual win of the 2012 points season. Burda was bolstered by a first round score of four-under par 68, which allowed him to cruise to a final round 71 on Sunday.
Finishing three shots back of Burda and alone in second was Dave Baskins of El Macero at 142, two-under par. Three players found themselves in a tie for third, Scott Anderson, Gary Vanier and Ken Webb, as each of the three posted 36-hole scores of 143. Finishing tied for sixth at an even-par score of 144 were Marco Dusi, Herb Jensen and Gay Ramsden. Peter Moren and Dennis Younglove round out the top 10 as the two tied for ninth with a score of 145.
In the 50-point Super Senior Championship Mike Davis of El Dorado Hills took a commanding seven-shot victory after posting a five-under par 139. Davis had a share of the 18-hole lead after an even-par 72 on Saturday, but come Sunday Davis put on a show, firing a five-under par 67 to run away with the event. Finishing in a three-way tie for second were Rob Thompson, Bob Olds and Terry Coffee at 146, two-over par. Vic Shellenberg rounded out the top five with a score of 148, four-over par.
