MERCED – Atwater’s Teddy Schrier fired a two-day total of 138, 6-under par at the 61st Annual Merced County Amateur. Posting a first round score of 69 to take a share of the first round lead, Schrier matched his score in the final round to take a four shot victory. Sam Smith of Turlock, the first round co-leader along with Schrier followed his 69 with a 73 in the final round to finish at 142 and a tie in second place with Rich Gilkey. In a four-way tie for fourth at even-par 144 were Andre Navarro, Jeff Hoffman, Jeremy Cornez and Rufie Fessler. Darin Lake and Paul Smith tied for eighth at 146, while Dominic DeBellis rounded out the top 10 with a score of 147.
In the senior division Rob Adolph beat out the formidable Jim Knoll by one stroke. Adolph came out firing in the opening round with a 4-under 68 to take a one-stroke lead over Knoll and Conrad Nilmeier, who both shot 69. Sunday proved to be a struggle for most of the senior field as Adolph and Knoll shot 75s to finish with a 36-hole score of 143 and 144, respectively. Coming in third was Nilmeier at 145, while Peter Moren and Terry Foreman finished in a tie for fourth at 148. Ben Sanchez, Doug Johnson and Greg Saiki finished in a three-way tie for sixth at 150. Jeff Burda, Joe Zanassi, Mark Miller, Scott Anderson and Tony McBroom finished in a five-way tie for ninth at 151.
