LIVERMORE – The Spondulick GC team of Russell Bettencourt, Shekhar Jain, John Irish and Russ Burch led the second day of qualifying for the 30th Annual NCGA Associate Club Championship at Poppy Ridge.
Spondulick blasted their way to a net 118 that included 10 net eagles to turn in the day’s top score. The four other qualifiers out of the Chardonnay/Zinfandel flight were the teams from Callippe Preserve, UAL 32, Bell GC of San Francisco and Pudders.
The five teams advancing from the Zinfandel/Merlot flight were led by Campbell’s round of net 120. Also advancing out of the flight were Rolmex, The Downtonw, Emerald Hills Elks and Transit Hackers.
The five teams to advance in the Merlot/Chardonnay flight were not determined until the last cards arrived to the scoring area. What a Raquet led the way with a net 120 and were followed by Los Amigos, Swing Hard and Agilent Soco. The final place in the championship field came down to a three-way tie between Chevron GC of SR, Metro Golf Addix and the NASGA. After comparing the back nine scores, Metro Golf Addix slipped into the field with a net 62 after the turn.
The championship will be played Aug. 27-28 at Spyglass Hill and Poppy Hills.
