LIVERMORE–The first half of the field for the 30th Annual NCGA Associate Club Championship is set after 15 teams advanced on Wednesday at Poppy Ridge. The competitors, randomly divided into three flights, played 18 holes with the best two of four scores counting toward the team total.
The top team score of the day, a net 116, was by the 2011 defending champions from B.N.F. GC. The team of Bill Kastanis, Damien Galford, Jerry Gage and Craig Wesner used three personal-best scores to breeze through qualifying. Also qualifying in the Chardonnay/Zinfandel flight were Dot Squad, Caltrans District No. 6, Crooked Sticks and Sunday Only.
The Zinfandel/Merlot flight qualifiers were paced by Caltrans Capitol’s net 119. Nickiyo, Intel Folsom, Sunol Valley Players Club and Silicon Valley also advanced to the championship.
The Caddy Club of Mayacama took top honors in the Merlot/Chardonnay flight after posting a net 120. San Francisco Bay EWGA, Sacto Regional Par and Northgate also advanced out of the flight. The fifth and final qualifier in the flight came down to a card off between eClub Central Valley and the Bay Area Pinseekers, which was won by Central Valley.
The remainder of the championship field will be determined in Thursday’s qualifying. The championship will be played Aug. 27-28 at Spyglass Hill and Poppy Hills.
