Spring Creek GCC

RIPON – Ricky Stockton had quite a day. Not only did he take low honors at the Spring Creek GCC U.S. Amateur qualifier to earn a spot at next month’s championship, he also came away with the course record after a first round 18-hole score of 62. With Stockton’s sizzling play in the morning round, the Salinas resident came back down to earth in the afternoon posting a 73 to finish at a 135 total. Still, his two-round total was two shots clear of second place finisher Andrej Bevins, who finished at 137 and earned one of the three spots available. Bevins, who was coming off a solid performance at the U.S. Junior Amateur, put together rounds of 69 and 68 to qualify.
Earning the third spot was Johnathan De Los Reyes of Antioch. The 18-year-old scored rounds of 67 and 71 to finish in third at 138. De Los Reyes edged out three players at 139: Brink Will, Carlos Briones and Amol Mahal. The trio squared off in a sudden-death playoff for the alternate spots with Brink earning first alternate and Briones taking second alternate.
Stockton, Bevins and De Los Reyes next stop will be Cherry Hills Village, Colo. for the championship proper at Cherry Hills CC, August 13-19.
